Credentials & Approach

How I work, and what I am — and am not — qualified to do

Being clear about scope matters more in this field than in almost any other. This page sets out my professional title, how sessions are conducted, the ethical boundaries I hold, and the point at which you should see a clinician instead of a coach.

A young life coach serving clients across Punjab and India. I do not publish awards, ratings or professional registrations that cannot be independently verified.

What the title means

I practise as a life coach and non-clinical counsellor. I am not a psychologist or a psychiatrist, and I do not describe myself as one. Those titles belong to clinicians with specific qualifications and legal responsibilities, including the ability to diagnose conditions and, in the case of psychiatrists, to prescribe medication.

Coaching and non-clinical counselling work on the present and the future: decisions, patterns, communication, confidence, recovery after a relationship, and the load you are currently carrying. Where the work needs clinical assessment or treatment instead, my responsibility is to say so and point you toward the right professional — not to keep the session.

Professional philosophy

Four ideas shape every session. Awareness, because you cannot change a pattern you have not seen. Emotional clarity, because naming a feeling accurately is most of the work. Healthy action, because insight without a step is just a well-understood problem. And sustainable growth, because change built on self-pressure collapses the first bad week.

Practically, that means I will not give you a speech, a list of affirmations or a generic plan. I will ask better questions than the ones you have been asking yourself, tell you honestly what I see, and hold you to what you said you wanted.

Consultation methodology

  1. Intake. The first session covers the whole picture — situation, history and what you want to be different.
  2. Focus. Each subsequent session takes one area rather than skimming everything.
  3. Action. Every session ends with one specific, achievable next step.
  4. Review. The following session starts with what actually happened, including what did not.
  5. Exit. The goal is that you no longer need the sessions, not that you keep booking them.

Confidentiality

What you share stays private. Sessions are never recorded. Written notes are minimal, stored securely, and are never shared with family members, employers or anyone else. Booking confirmations go only to the contact detail you nominate.

The single exception is a situation involving immediate risk to life, where responsible practice may require involving emergency support. If that point is ever reached, I will tell you rather than act behind you.

Ethical boundaries

  • No diagnosis, no treatment plans, no medication advice.
  • No guaranteed outcomes — emotional, relational, financial or medical.
  • No taking sides between partners, and no deciding your life for you.
  • No sessions with anyone under 18 without parental consent.
  • No dual relationships — I do not coach close friends or family.
  • No use of client stories, quotes or details without explicit permission.

Who these services are suitable for

Adults who are functioning day to day but are stuck, overloaded, grieving a relationship, or facing a decision they cannot resolve alone. That covers the large majority of people who reach out.

When to seek clinical or emergency support instead

Please contact a qualified mental-health professional or your doctor if you are experiencing persistent hopelessness, thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, symptoms that stop you functioning at work or at home, substance dependence, or the effects of trauma or abuse that need clinical treatment.

This website does not provide emergency services and is not monitored continuously. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline right away.

Have a question about fit?

If you are unsure whether coaching is the right support for what you are facing, ask before booking. An honest answer costs nothing.

Coach JP Grewal provides life coaching and non-clinical counselling support. This is not medical, psychological or psychiatric treatment, and no emergency services are offered through this website. If you are in crisis or in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline.
